What is foster care?
Who is in charge of what's happening to me?
The adults around you are trying their best to get you somewhere safe so explanations might not be as thorough as you would like. We are sure you want to know what is going on and why this is happening to you. That's what these films are for, however, we know from all the ideas that are coming from the Steering Group that we need to give you more information in future.
Your main source of information should be your foster carers and your social worker. They are both there to make sure you are safe and well looked after. There are limits on the amount they are allowed to tell you, and this isn't them being nasty or not wanting to help you, the law stops them from saying everything and they have to follow that law or they won't be able to care for children any more.
Foster care is a way of providing a stable family home for a child that can no longer live with their parents or carers and it is something that takes a lot of work for both the fostered child and the foster carer to get right.
It might be that you don't have any of your stuff right now and are feeling lost and frightened in a strange place with strange people, but they really are there to help you and if you need anything then just ask - you might not get everything you want right now, but they will do their best to take your wishes into account.
